When I moved to London to study for my BA (Hons) Degree in Acting in London we had only been together for two months. We made long distance work for six years flying back and forth until the Summer of 2012 when Gerard moved from Dublin to London to obtain his MSc. He proposed 16th August 2014 and we were married in Dublin eleven months (and a bit!) later. The Mass took place in Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Foxrock which meant a lot to me as I had been baptised there too.”
The reception took place in the glamorous Powerscourt Hotel in Wicklow, surrounded by beautiful rolling hills including the prominent Sugar Loaf

Real bride – Louise Allen wows in Laced in Tradition

Louise Allen (nee Dever) married her fiancé Paul Allen in St. Patrick’s Church, Islandeady, Co Mayo in Ireland on August 28th 2015.

Louise says: “This was the church I was baptised in, it was very special for me to be able to get married in the same church, Paul and I live in London so he and his family were very understanding when I said I wanted to get married in Ireland.

“Our reception venue was the Knockranny House Hotel, it is a beautiful hotel set up on a hill over looking Westport town. Even though we got married in summer you can never rely on Irish weather! The room was perfect, large enough to accommodate everyone and beautifully decorated to create a lovely atmosphere where we danced until the early hours.

“I didn’t have a theme, I realise this is controversial!  However, for Paul and I our day was about our families, us as a couple and making sure everyone felt welcome and relaxed. So I suppose our theme is people!

“The colour blue strongly ran through our wedding, I also wanted things to feature that meant something to Paul and I. We had lavender bunches for pew ends, my brother and I would play tennis in my grandparents garden, using their huge lavender bush as the net, the smell of lavender always brings back wonderful memories of childhood summers. Paul sourced some old Irish coins that had been made into cuff links as presents for the best man, groomsmen, my father and his stepfather.

“Choosing an English designer for my dress was also very important, although I am Irish I wanted to acknowledge the English side of my life having grown up in England and marrying an English man!

“There are so many wonderful memories from our wedding day, the first time I saw my bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquet was amazing, the florist ( Tom @ Brawns flowers) had literally performed a miracle he had sourced peonies for my bouquet, peonies in late August are unheard of, I was thrilled when the most beautiful pink peonies took centre stage in my bouquet working well with the blackberries also in bouquet!

“I loved seeing Paul at the altar when I arrived, he didn’t look quite as nervous as I thought he might be and really very handsome in his suit. I remember being quite overwhelmed at the number of guests that had travelled to our wedding, the effort some of our guest went to for us was very touching, something I’ll never forget. My cousin made our wedding cake, Paul and I had not seen it  until the day so we were both excited and thrilled when we saw what a beautiful cake she had made.

“Wedding dress shopping was not quite how I had imagined. I think every girl imagines slipping into dresses (regardless of body type) they all fit perfectly and finding the one after trying only a small selection of dresses. This wasn’t the case for me! I found a beautiful Lyn Ashworth dress, I loved it, the lace and hidden corset were to die! So one snowy February morning my friend and I drove up from London o the Lyn Ashworth studio, to find what can only be described as a brides dream, a beautiful farm house with an out building full of beautiful gowns! Sarah Barrett dressed me. I couldn’t believe it. She was amazing with me, not only did she make the gowns fit me, she took the time to try different accessories and explore different options for the dress, I was in heaven!

“When I tried on ‘Laced in Tradition’ I knew it was my dress. The feel of the dress on just felt right, bringing out a very feminine side whilst the hidden corset gives confidence and the lace is truly exquisite. The hidden pockets were perfect for the essential tissue for those overwhelming moments! I added a belt I found on etsy, to add a little sparkly but didn’t want to detract from the dress in any way.”
